Meet Michael Ulrich (aka Miguel or Miguelito)!
Originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan, Michael moved to Vail in June 2015 to chase a lifelong dream of living in a mountain town. Raised in a skiing family, he grew up watching Warren Miller ski films and dreaming of heading west. His passion for hospitality started as a teenager working in fine dining and grew during three years in London, where he worked in five-star and Michelin-starred restaurants. After moving to Vail, Michael spent several years managing ski shops before joining Mountain Standard in 2023 and later making his way to Sweet Basil.
When he’s not at the restaurant, you can find Michael enjoying just about anything outdoors, from mountaineering, hiking, camping, and mountain biking to fly fishing and skiing. He also speaks Spanish, which is where his nickname, Miguel (or Miguelito), comes from. At home, he enjoys life with his wife, who is originally from Madrid and his best friend, along with their two goldendoodles, a fish, and a snail.
